XLO India Limited was set up in 1958 to manufacture fabricate Steering Gear assemblies, Propeller Shafts and Machine tools.
XLO India was founded on 10th March, 1958 formerly known as M/s Amerind Engineering Pvt. Ltd. In 1960, the company got technical and equity participation from Ex-cell-O USA and thus the name changed to Ex-Cell-O India Ltd. The company also obtained collaboration from Ross Gears & Tool Co. Ltd. (Division of TRW, USA) in 1961.
During these years (1960s), following three products were manufactured with different collaborations at the company plant located in Thane near Mumbai. |

In 1978, the company became Indian owned & solely Indian as the name too changed to XLO India Limited. An overall expansion took place some and the manufacturing activities were shifted to Nashik during 1974/75.
In 1984/85, XLO underwent a major corporate restructuring program. Every product division became a separate company. The Machine Tools Division was sold off in 1995. The two products viz. Steering Gear Assemblies & Propeller Shafts are now being manufactured at two separate companies & at two separate plants as follows. |

XLO INDIA Ltd. is a closely held Public Limited Company with 45% Share holding with Unit Trust of India & General Insurance Company of India. 51% of the share holding is with Mr. S. C. Saran, Chairman & Managing Director.
The organization is headed by Mr. S. C. Saran who is a Mechanical Engineer from Carnegie-Mellon University, U.S.A. and an MBA (Finance) from Columbia University, U.S.A. The company is professionally managed and over the years, a cadre of qualified Managers and Engineers have been put together to man the divergent functions. At XLO, the focal point at all times has been on quality, skills and updating. |
